Multimeters
Multimeters measure the fundamental electrical quantities: voltage, current and resistance, with additional functions for continuity, frequency, capacitance or temperature. Their resolution varies from 4½ to 8½ digits depending on the accuracy required, with a typical uncertainty of ± (0.01 % + 2 digits). In R&D, they are used to characterise circuits, validate components and monitor power supply signals. In maintenance, they can be used to detect faults and quickly check connectors or electronic modules. In metrology, bench-top models ensure traceability of measurements to ISO 17025 thanks to long-term stability of less than 5 ppm/year. Modern multimeters incorporate functions for relative measurement, digital filtering, automatic recording and USB, LAN or GPIB communication for remote control. Portable models, certified CAT III / CAT IV, guarantee operator safety in industrial environments.
A versatile instrument par excellence, the multimeter remains the benchmark for electrical measurement, diagnosis and testing.

concrete questions about Multimètres
01
What measurements can a multimeter make?It generally measures voltage (AC/DC), current, resistance, continuity, frequency, and sometimes capacitance or temperature. Some advanced models include functions such as diode measurement, battery test or true RMS calculation.
02
Digital or analogue multimeter: which to choose?Today, digital technology is in the majority: more accurate, easier to read and often richer in functions. Analogue is still useful for quickly displaying variations (e.g. voltage fluctuations) in certain cases.
03
What distinguishes a consumer multimeter from a professional model?Professional models are more robust, better protected against overloads, equipped with low impedance filters, better accuracy (e.g. 0.05 %) and certifications (CAT III / CAT IV) for safe use on industrial installations.
04
Is it necessary to have a multimeter calibrated?Yes, especially for use in metrology, quality or critical measurements. Calibration ensures traceability of measurements to ISO 17025.
05
What autonomy is required for field use?Portable models run on battery power, sometimes for several hundred hours. Some switch off automatically or have an intelligent standby mode to conserve energy.
